I went to the Reina Sofia Museum today. It's a contemporary art museum. It's so massive that I am going to need to go at least once or twice more. I'll be honest here: I'm not the most artsy person, so I didn't "get" many of the things that I saw. Even though I may not have understood the meaning of the art or the intentions of the artist, I had a deep appreciation for the time and care that was spent in creating their respective pieces of art. I believe that the definition of art is a relative one, and that there will never be a concrete, one-size-fits-all definition of art.
This museum is home to one of the most famous paintings in the world, Guernica, by Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso. When I first looked at this painting I didn't understand it. Now that I have done some research on it, I cannot wait to get back to the Reina too look at it again. The story behind the canvas is more important than what you see on the canvas itself.
There was one exhibit in particular that I enjoyed. It was a room filled with front pages of newspapers from around the world. The topic of these periodicos (newspapers): 9/11. It was interesting to see the impact of 9/11 from the perspective of other countries such as Germany, China, and Japan.
I enjoy museums for more than their contents. I simply love the fact that it's another place where I can wander and explore. I snapped some pictures of some of things in that I saw. You can view them in the album below. This was my first time shooting in fully manual mode. I usually cheat and shoot in aperture or shutter priority, but it's time to be a big kid now!
Enjoy: Museo Reina Sofia
Tomorrow = homework.
Hasta luego,
Asha!
