Madrid Mía: Blanco y Negro (My Madrid: Black and White)

So I had been itching to do some architectural photography around Madrid, and this weekend I finally did. This is series of black and whites that I shot and edited for a friend, that I thought I'd share. Black and white photography is my absolute FAVORITE. The simplicity of the coloration allows a photo to say so much more.

The windows of this building are very typical of the types of windows with balcones (little balconies) that you'll see throughout Madrid.

A typical alleyway. This was just off the metro stop that brings you to the Royal Palace.

Churros con chocolate! An absolute MUST when you come to Madrid. The absolute MUSTS also include:
  • Tortilla de España
  • Paella
  • Croquetas

This one with the older gentleman is my favorite.

It was interesting how I found this building. An older man and his dog led the way! I swear the old people here LOVE me. They randomly come up and talk to me. They are so so sweet. I suppose he saw me with my camera and figured I was looking for the prettiest building in Madrid. And he was correct. He walked right up to me and "Mira, mira...(all of this in Spanish) If you walk straight ahead you will find one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Madrid. It's one of my favorites, it's so pretty, just look at the windows." He also pointed me in the direction of the Egyptian Temple here in Madrid as well. El Templo Debod.

I'm sure you are all wondering why Madrid has an Egyptian temple, eh? Well back in the 1900...somethings. During the construction of the Aswan High Dam in southern Egypt, one of the most famous Egyptian temples was put in danger of destruction. The Abu-Simbel temple was built by Ramses II(The Great) and was named a UNESCO sight when it fell under danger of destruction. Spain was one of the countries that sent aid to move Abu-Simbel to higher, safer ground. As a token of their appreciation, Egypt gave Madrid her very own temple. There is a very interesting galler/exhibition inside as well. Best part: it's FREEEEEE

Hasta luego,

Asha
